Figuring Out Where To Start When You Want To Get Things Done

One of my flaws is that I have a tendency to do too many things at once and I consequently overextend myself. This usually results in me becoming stressed, worn out and lacking sleep. And trust me, you don’t want me to not get enough sleep.

On the other end of the spectrum, I sometimes don’t know where to start in getting things done.  That usually results in me being paralyzed and not getting anything done. So many things! Not sure where to start! But I want to do it all! Yup. Counterproductive, at best.

Here are some strategies I’ve been using to stop being scared and start getting things done.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day on a Budget

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Walk into any store or take a look around Pinterest and it will be immediately clear that love is in the air.

But Valentine’s Day, as sentimental and nice as the idea behind it is, can quickly become a frugal person’s nightmare. Commercialism is a frequent critique of the holiday, with cards, candies, sweets, lingerie, nights out, etc. quickly adding up.

Whether you have a significant other, friends or family that you want to show that you care, here are some ideas for having a Valentine’s Day on a budget. After all, it’s about showing the people how much you care, not how much you can spend on them.

It’s almost February. As in, there are only a few more hours left in January. As in, we’re already 1/12 of the way through 2013.

How did that happen?

Blogs to Follow About Life, Career, Money and Travel

Just about every week around here, I share some good reads from around the Internets. You might have noticed that while I aim for variety, there are a few blogs or resources that I pull from often. From the Internets: January 25th

Brrrr! It’s chilly outside! Hope you have been managing to stay warm and toast this past week, if you are in the Northeast. I’ve been trying, but those walks home are killer.

Softening The Blow of More Taxes and Less Take-Home Pay in 2013

We may have averted the looming fiscal cliff, but that doesn’t mean we’ve completely slipped by with no tax increases in 2013. If you’re like myself, you may have found that you had less cash in pocket after your first paycheck in 2013. It may not be a lot per paycheck, but it can add up. If you were already on a tight budget, it could be a downright unpleasant situation no matter how much more you are paying. It’s not an ideal situation, but it’s one that can be conquered. In fact, you can spin this negative situation into a positive one and parlay the tax increase into some positive life changes. After all, that’s what living in flux is all about.

Breaking Habits That May Be Keeping Back Your Career

Do you have a habit?

Well, let me rephrase that. Do you have a bad habit that you’d like to change?

Me, too.

Whining, nail-biting, gum smacking, slouching, procrastination, gossiping, saying “like”, like, a lot. There are many bad habits to have and those are just a few of them.

In the New Year, everyone is interested in self-improvement. Resolutions are made, gym memberships are opened, and everyone and their brother goes on a diet. That’s why it’s both a perfect time and a not-so-perfect time to commit to breaking a habit. On one hand, it’s a new year! Everything is fresh! Everyone wants to try something new! On the other hand, breaking habits takes commitment. With other resolutions on one’s plate, habit-breaking may fall to the wayside.

I Went There: A Quick Trip to Charleston, SC

I’m not sure about you, but I couldn’t possibly take nearly two weeks off of work without doing something. Yes, during the holidays, there is food to eat, family to entertain and merriment to be had. But for those of us who get stir crazy with too much “free time,” there are also places to go.

And places to go over the holiday, I went. I went to Charleston, SC to be exact. My first time, too.

So what did I think? Here are the deets on my 2 days in Charleston.
